My Update for the Weekend of 9 – 10 Aug

Wow, kind of a struggle for a title this week.  Had to fall back to “generic.”  Generic is a good word for the weekend though, so it’s fitting.  We shook things up a bit on Friday and went to the Brooksider for our evening entertainment.  We sat at our same table, with the same people, and talked about the same things.  I find some comfort in monotony though, so this was all good.  It doesn’t make for very good news, but then precious little in my day to day activities does.

Saturday we got a rather late start on the day.  I got sucked into my stupid game of Bejeweled on the computer and couldn’t pull myself away.  It’s probably the most ridiculous game in existence, but I continually find myself playing it for hours on end.  For the record, I’m currently in the middle of my all time high score, just about to turn over 27 million points at level 100.  I was kind of expecting some kind of fireworks or spectacular graphics when I hit level 100 but nope, it just said “100.”  Oh well, it wasn’t the first or last let-down in life.  I finally tore myself away from this gripping waste of time around noon, and we headed out for a shopping trip.  After a tasty lunch at 75th Street, we walked around the corner to our friendly neighborhood shoe store and bought me some new shoes, which I was in dire need of.  I found a pair I liked, which was a good thing, but rather sad in that it marked the end of my beloved Salomon shoes.  They were a fine pair pair of footwear, but alas, they had fallen on hard times.  The soles were worn through, the insoles had collapsed, and they smelled like Gabe had been using them for a chew toy.  Which, as a matter of fact, he has on more than one occasion.  So, pleased with my new Keen boots, I had to throw away the old ones.  Well, actually I just set them beside the trash can, I couldn’t bring myself to actually toss them.  After that mildly traumatic event, we headed downtown to Kemper arena for the first annual “Wine & Brew Ha Ha.”  We weren’t going for fun though, Donette had volunteered us to work at it.  Ah, the life of a public servant.  It was a good time though, I must say.  We actually stayed for three hours after the end of the event, hanging out with the people from Flying Monkey (an Olathe brewery that apparently has no website) and a few other volunteers.  Quite social of us I thought.

Sunday got off to a similarly slow start.  I eventually drug myself outside to mow the lawn, and Donette headed off to the pool with a few friends.  After my yard work I turned on the Olympics, which occupied me for roughly 20 minutes, then Gabe and I took a nice stroll down to the Brooksider.  We hung out for a while watching the Royals game, then walked back home.  There was still nothing on TV, so I turned back around and went back to the Brooksider.  Donette showed up a while later, sporting a fresh sunburn, and we ended up making an evening of it.  Donette wouldn’t quit talking to strangers though so we had to leave after a while.  I got all socialized out Saturday night I think.

  1. Did you happen to see Justin on Saturday at the Wine and Brew HA HA?
He said it wasn’t all that bad. As for the Olympics it was not to exciting except for the swimming.
You are missing the best part.

  2. Yep we hung out with Justin quite a bit on our “breaks.” I thought the whole event went pretty well, they said there about 1,000 people there. They also said they’d advertised quite a bit but I never saw anything.

I watched men’s basketball for a while, but yeah it wasn’t too exciting. Pretty predicable, which wasn’t all bad.
