Day Off

I have the day off and don’t intend to fritter it away typing on this thing.  No, I will use it much more wisely, sitting in front of the television eating potato chips.

So, for the brief overview;  For New Year’s Eve, we went over to my long-lost-friend Laura’s house in Lenexa for a pig roast.  Spent the majority of the evening catching up on the last dozen years and watching a pig spin on a spit.  We didn’t see midnight though, at least not at their house.  Don’t want to be out too late with the crazies, you know.

New Years Day, we kicked things off by going to Harrah’s.  This officially marked my first trip to any of the boats.  While most people make silly resolutions, I usually opt for picking up a new vice each year.  So, this year I resolve to gamble at the boats.  Ha.  Gotta have goals.  We hung out down there for about three hours, then headed back home where our friend Brooke joined us for a tamale-making fest.  They came out pretty darn good too.

Saturday, I got off the couch and got dressed at the crack of 7:00.  (In the evening.)  Whoa.  Won’t get that day back.  Too cold out to do anything anyway.  I ended up braving the snow and driving to Target, and picked up a new PS-3, (thanks Mom!) and spent the rest of the night setting it all up.

Sunday was about as productive as Saturday.  I was supposed to go to the shooting range with some guys but that got canceled;  Snow-out.  So, I watched football all day, flipping occasionally to the PS-3 to kill bad guys.  Maybe this coming week will be more productive;  Given the weather forecast I have my doubts.

  1. You’re welcome!! What in the world is a PS-3? I guess Matthew or Matt, as he now prefers to be called, got some fancy gadget that cost $300.00. He’s been saving his money and bought one. The last word in the gadget is “touch”, I think!! I know I’m really up to date with these things. I went in to Belton Research this morn. to get an injection. Anyway, the nurse that did it, is the one that Dad had in ’02. I started crying. I told her I bet everyone that sees her doesn’t start crying!

  2. I have little doubt that you did indeed fritter the day away so now I’m curious how. I’m hoping you spent it researching road bikes but I fear the PS3 put a pinch on the bicycle budget. Perhaps I’m going about this wrong and need to start working on Doni (any perhaps Mom) regarding the overal health benefits a new road bike would provide you.

  3. Mom….PS-3….PlayStation 3…..Matthew (I still call him Matthew!) did indeed get an Ipod Touch and has been having a blast with it today! Although, they (all 3) might need to head down to Phil’s so he can teach them their way around a PS3….a good babysitting job lined up would certainly get him up and out of the house on a bicycle riding away as fast as he can:)

  4. Dude…

#1, I’m totally envious of your electronics-smothered family.

#2, Next time there’s anything rotating on a spit, you have to remember you buddy Mike. Especially if it gets me out of traveling to the north pole, er, Iowa.
